How to Maintain Dryer?

MY DRYER IS NOT HEATING PROPERLY?

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have not taken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then you need to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should take place. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causes for your dryer to fail.

WHAT HAPPENS IF LINT IS NOT CLEARED?

Lint build up in the dryer and the dryer duct will cause increased drying times. This causes your dryer to run longer, increasing the wear on the dryer. Many house firesare also caused by the build up of lint in the dryer and related duct-work.

HOW TO CLEAN THE DUCT?
Cleaning the duct is easy with a dryer vent brush. They come in sizes up to 20 feet in length. The job may be messy but it will be worth it in the long run.

IS IT DIFFICULT? CAN I DO IT?
If you are comfortable with tearing down the dryer on the inside, you should take apart and vacuum out as much as you are comfortable with. By taking out the lint screenand sticking Shop Vac crevice tool down into the opening, a lot of the lint that gets by the screen can be vacuumed out, also.

OK.OTHER THEN LINT,WHAT SHOULD I CHECK?
Another thing to check is the material that is being used to vent your dryer. The older white vinyl duct is no longer approved by any building code for any dryer. If you have the vinyl duct replace it with rigid or semi-rigid aluminum duct. This will make your home much safer.

IS THIS CLEANING SERVICING REALLY REQUIRED,IF MY DRYER IS WORKING PROPERLY ?
By giving your dryer a once a year cleaning you will help to save yourself energy and also help to prevent the possibility of trouble in the future.

THANK YOU.

how to wire dryer power cord?

IS IT DIFFICULT TO WIRE DRYER POWER CORD?

If you have an electric dryer and need to change the style of cord that you have on the dryer on if you just need to install a cord on a new dryer, you may have questions about where the wires need to go. This tip will help you to figure these questions out.

Remember to ALWAYS make sure that all power is disconnected BEFORE beginning your work!!

WHERE ARE WIRING CONNECTION ON MY DRYER?

On the back of your dryer will be a cover plate that will have the wiring connection lugs behind it. A screw or two will need to be removed to expose the connection point. Always remember to reinstall the cover after you have finished your connections.

HOW DOES MY POWER CORD LOOK?

If you have a 3 wire cord the plug will look like this.

WHAT COLOR WIRES I WILL SEE?

You will have a red wire, a white wire, and a black wire, on the other end from the plug.

WHERE TO CONNECT THIS WIRES?

The black and red wires will go on the two ends to the matching colors. The white wire will go in the center. If you have a bonding strap make sure that you jumper that from the center lug to the frame of the dryer. If you do not have a bonding strap, then make sure to make one out of #10 ga. wire and a couple of crimp rings. Green wire is preferable.

CAN YOU TELL ME HOW THIS WIRE CONNECTION WILL LOOK?

The connection will look something like this.SEE THE FIG BELOW:---

OK.BUT IF I HAVE 4 WIRE CORD THEN?

If you have a 4 wire cord the plug will look like this

HOW TO CONNECT WIRING ON 4 WIRE CORD?

Here again, you will have the red, white, and black wires. This cord will also have a green wire. This wire gets connected directly to the frame of the dryer. With this cord, you do not need the bonding strap or wire.

CAN I CONVERT 3 WIRE TO 4 WIRE? IF YES,THEN HOW?

If you are converting from a 3 wire to a 4 wire then remove the old bonding strap if there is one there.

OK.CAN YOU TELL ME HOW THIS CONNECTION WILL LOOK?

This connection will look something like this.SEE THE FIG BELOW:---

WHAT STEPS SHOULD I FOLLOW WHILE CONVERTING WIRES?

When converting from a 3 wire to a 4 wire you just REMOVE the bonding strap or wire and hook the green wire to the frame. If you are converting from a 4 wire to a 3 wire then you ADD the bonding strap or wire. It gets hooked from the center lug to the frame.

Always make sure that the outlet that you are plugging into is wire correctly also. The black and red are each 110 volt legs that have a voltage of 220 volts across them. The black and the red wires need to be wired to a double pole 30 amp. circuit breaker. The wiring needs to be a minimum of 10 ga. wire. The white or neutral wire goes to the neutral bar in the power panel and the green wire goes to the ground bar in the power panel.

By following this tip you should be able to hookup a new dryer or convert your existing dryer cord. Recheck all your connections before turning the power back on to the dryer.

whirlpool Gas dryer not heating?

HELP ME, MY GAS DRYER IS NOT HEATING?

If your gas dryer is not working because it is not heating then you need to check this out.
Today’s gas dryers often do not use the simple thermocouple with a pilot to prove the flame anymore. They use a much more complicated method of lighting the burner and proving the flame.

HOW DOES THIS GAS DRYER WORKS?
The use of electric igniters has become the standard for many dryers today. The thermostat calls for heat, power is supplied to the igniter, then after a certainamperage draw on the igniter, the gas valve is energizes to open and allow gas to flow starting the flame. As long as the amperage draw on the igniter is high enough then the gas valve stays open till the thermostat is satisfied.

I SEE SOME SPARK COMING FROM IGNITER ?

Sometimes the igniter will crack and no current will go through and the igniter will not even heat up or glow. Sometimes the igniter will wear to the point where it will still heat up and glow, but the current draw will not be high enough to allow the gas valve to open. This creates a confusing situation where you look into the dryer and see the glow from the igniter, but get no heat because the burner never lights up. If this is the case then you will need to replace the igniter even though it seems to be okay. The only way to know for sure is to know what the current draw requirements are for that gas valve and to have an amp meter to check the current draw.

WHAT PART MAJORLY FAILS?

Most of the time the problem will be in the igniter, and not the gas valve. Gas valves can go bad, but that is the case in only a very small amount of the situations. It is a pretty safe bet that if you have a problem with you gas dryer lighting that you have a problem with your igniter.
